4 Tips to Get The Most From Your Boiler System

woman-technician-working-on-boiler

Boilers are hardy machines that tend to last through just about any condition which is one of the reasons we still provide boiler services in Syracuse, NY. They simply last, but they eventually run into problems that can lead to full-scale breakdowns.

We know that’s the last thing you want, so it’s time to figure out exactly what you can do to prevent this from happening in the first place. Here are our tips that help you keep your boiler in check.

1. Regular, Ongoing Maintenance

Simply put, the best way to keep your boiler in perfect working order is to get it worked on at least once a year by a service technician. We know–those maintenance visits aren’t exciting, and as a homeowner, the boiler doesn’t change as far as you’re concerned. It worked before the tech came in, and it works when they leave, so what happens during that visit?

Boiler maintenance allows your technician to inspect safety features, test the pressure and temperature of your boiler, perform a flue gas analysis, remove deposits and soot, and inspect each key component of your boiler to spot upcoming breakdowns from worn-out parts. In short, it’s a culmination of a lot of different services.

2. Keep an Eye on Water Levels

When your boiler isn’t getting enough pressure, the water levels can drop. The water level in your boiler is important because when it’s too low, your boiler can actually overheat (sounds silly, we know). When that happens, the unit wears out and incurs damage when it’s not supposed to.

Low water levels in your boiler are usually indicative of other problems happening with your plumbing system, but the boiler ends up paying the price. You don’t have to check this too often, but try to at least peek at your water levels once a week at the bare minimum. Just make sure it’s within a normal range and you can prevent large-scale breakdowns from happening.

3. Bleed Your Radiators

Air in your pipes isn’t a good thing. It can make your home take even longer to heat up, and cause you to spend unnecessary energy. Bleeding your radiators gets that air out of your system and gets your home back on track.

Do yourself a favor and let our team know if you think there’s air inside of your pipe system. We can take care of this to avoid leaks and other issues.

4. Keep It Clean

Your boiler uses gas to heat the water, and that means there’s byproducts from the gas being burned. Most notably, there’s a lot of soot. Keep your boiler clean so it can handle heat distribution properly and not encounter additional, unnecessary issues.
